It has been a while since the last blog post. The main reason is that we have been purchasing a house. We are now moved into said house, however, we are still moving odds and ends from the apartment.

If you wish to get our new address, please send an e-mail to

More to come. For now, please enjoy this photo of Brendan eating avocado for the first time. (He didn’t like it)

Brendan’s Mobile… sort of

On February 24, 2009, in Family, by scott

Earlier today, while Crystal was at work and Gabby was napping, Brendan and I were enjoying some floor time. I took a brief moment to type an e-mail. When I looked back down at the little guy, something looked different. He was on his BELLY! He rolled over! Again, and again, and again. We caught this little gem on video. Enjoy!

Brendan’s Laughing

On January 15, 2009, in Family, by scott

As we were getting the children in the bath, I put Brendan in front of the mirror and he started laughing.  This was the first time we’ve seen him laugh, so I grabbed the video camera.  Here’s what followed.

New Year

On January 9, 2009, in Family, by scott

2008 has come and gone.  It was a wonderful and challenging year for our family.  It brought great joy with the birth of Brendan, as well as a few, shall we call them minor, frustrations.

Crystal received her Professional Teaching Certificate, as well as received a total of 18 credits toward her Master’s Degree (half way there!), all while being pregnant!  She is planning on returning to work at Waverly High School on January 20.

Gabby continues to grow and amaze us every day.  If you look in the gallery, as well as on Scott’s Flickr Page, I’m sure you can see how big she has gotten over the course of the year.  Yesterday, I had the luxury of playing in the snow with Gabby, and this is one of the shots I captured.

Brendan has also grown quite a bit in two months he spent with us in 2008.  He’s now our little boy that likes to kick and smile while laying on his back.  He’s full of expressions, smiles, coos, and happiness (with a share of crankiness every now and then.)

Scott’s (my) company seemed to be one of those hit by the economy.  In September, Continental parked somewhere around 60 airplanes and furloughed 147 pilots.  While he still has a job, his seniority in Cleveland went down considerably and his quality of life has suffered a bit.  Working through Christmas did present quite a bit of stress, tension, and loneliness.

Enough of the sad stuff.  Life has been good and God has blessed us with two beautiful children. We look forward to watching them, as well as our family grow (not expand).

Happy New Year! Here’s to a new year and new adventures. Let’s enjoy the ride!

The Christmas Season

On December 26, 2008, in Family, by scott

Wow, I didn’t realize how long it has been since I have posted an update.  For the long delay, I apologize.  Things in our home have grown a bit more hectic.  I (Scott) have returned to work with a less than spectacular schedule.  Crystal is busy trying to keep up with Gabby while keeping Brendan calm, and the cats are appreciating any attention they can get.

Last week, before I left for work on Christmas Eve, we did have the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with my mother.  It was a great time!  All three grandchildren seemed to have a wonderful time playing with each other.  There are quite a few new photos in the gallery, including a Christmas 2008 album.  I will do my best to post more as time permits.

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Christmas, and wish everyone a very happy New Year!

A week of Firsts

On November 6, 2008, in Family, by scott

This week has been a crazy and interesting week.  Gabby’s first chance at Trick-or-Treating in a neighborhood, our first African-American president was elected, and Brendan had his first bath.

The previous post talks about Halloween, so I’ll leave that out of this post.  I’d just like to mention that Gabby is STILL eating her candy.

Last week, Brendan was introduced to his little bath tub.  He took to it a bit better than Gabby did originally.  After he gets over the shock of being naked and not cuddled up to us, he’s actually all right in the water.

Through all of this, Gabby has been more than willing to help clean her little brother! (although right now she’s battling a cold so we’re trying to keep a bit of distance between the two of them)

On election day, we took a family trip to vote.  In our little town, there was no line to vote and it went rather quickly.  Gabby was really happy that she got a sticker and proudly wore it.  Daddy and Gabby also ended up in the MLive web site with the photos you will see below.

A week of firsts and a lot of changes happening.  Gabby is getting bigger every day, our little Brendan is almost a month old, and our government will soon not look anything like it did last week.  Change is good!

Crazy Halloween

On November 3, 2008, in Uncategorized, by scott

Trick-or-treat.  That’s what Gabby woke up saying.  The first thing she asked me when I got her out of her crib was, “When can we put on our costumes and go trick-or-treating?”  She had a blast.

It was a longer day for the family.  We went to Grand Haven to visit with Crystal’s cousins who were in town for a family emergency.  While in town, Don, Dustin, and I went up to deer camp to clear out our blinds and get ready for deer season in a couple of weeks.

In order to keep things from being too crazy and risk Gabby missing her trick-or-treating, we decided to stay in Grand Haven for the candy getting.

Her pumpkin ended the night very full.  We had a blast watching her walk up to the houses and saying “Trick-or-treat.”  We had practiced what to say so much that she forgot to say thank you as we were leaving; all she would say was, “Trick-or-treat!”

Pumpkin Carving and Photo Shoot

On October 27, 2008, in Family, by scott

Last weekend, the family ventured out to Grand Haven to the Grayson family’s annual pumpkin carving party.  Brendan and mommy made a short appearance. Gabby and daddy stayed, carved pumpkins, and had a good time playing with the others.

We also completed the photo shoot for Brendan’s birth announcement.  The photos for the actual announcement will be in the gallery AFTER everyone receives their announcements in the mail, but below is a sample.  Thanks to Jim Kiewski for lending us the lenses for the shoot. Enjoy!

Two weeks old

On October 24, 2008, in Uncategorized, by scott

Little Brendan is two weeks old and our new definition of “normal” is changing every day.  Crystal and I have spent many nights in the living room on the couch, but we’re cherishing both of our kids more and more every day.

Out of the blue today, Gabby just said “Barack Obama”… Crystal and I just looked at each other an laughed.

On a different note, Crystal and I have decided to try to do Brendan’s birth announcement shots at home with our own camera (and some borrowed lenses).  While shooting, he didn’t necessarily like the poses we were putting him in, so he required a bit of being held to calm him down. Crystal snapped this photo of me holding the little man.  It’s amazing how much I’ve been hearing from family (my mom included) how much adding a beard to my face reminds others of my father.

A week old

On October 15, 2008, in Family, by scott

Tomorrow, Brendan will have been with us for a week.  It’s been a crazy week of sleep deprivation, change, and adventure for the four of us.

Gabby’s been hamming it up more and more for the camera.  We were all laying in the living room shooting some photos and video this evening, and this just made us laugh.  I turned the screen on the camera around so Gabby could see what I was shooting… you’ll see the rest.
